Most hockey players are tall when standing barefoot but hockey skates add a considerable amount of height to make them tower over anyone around without skates.
Hockey skates can add about 5-6 inches to your height from barefoot. I tested this by measuring myself both with and without ice skates.
Without skates I am 76 inches inches tall and after putting on my hockey skates I measured in at 81.5 inches. So the skates added 5.5 inches to my height. This was pretty surprising to me as I thought it would add 3 or 4 inches at most.
How Tall is the Tallest Hockey Player in the NHL
Its pretty well known that Zdeno Chára is the tallest hockey player in the NHL. Without skates, Chára towers over every other player on the ice at an incredible 6 foot 9 inches. That means that with our example he would be well over 7 feet tall with ice skates on.
Chára is actually the tallest person to ever play in the NHL.
